If Florence Nightengale could see us now, she would be so proud of where the nursing world is, and she would be ready to dive in and find ways to help us get through these rough times. While watching the movie “NURSES If Florence Could See Us Now,” many emotions were felt as it was inspirational and motivating as we as senior nursing students are pushing thorugh our final semester. The nurses throughout the movie showed the ins and outs of the job and the struggles of the job in all different departments. It really opened my eyes to the different realms of nursing whther that is the main stream hospital side or the community based nursing. I was intrigued and am ready to explore more fields of nursing myself to find what I am truly interested in. The video taught me that there is more to be connected in our practices with the diverse community and our patient populations and how it isnt just focused on one type of patient, we focus on all types and kinds of patients in this world. We as nursing students need to develop the skill set to provide individualized care to any patient that walks in the door and we need to be able to provide care with our hearts and intention, not just what was taught by the books.
Preparing for the interview process is something I am very much looking forward to as it is a way to market yourself and to get to know the institutions you are looking to work with. It is an opportunity to show the employers who you are as a human being and to market your skills off the paper. What will set me apart from other applicants during the interview and application process is my personable personality, leadership skills, my understanding and connection to cultural humility, and articulation in explaining these finer details about why I am the best fit for the job. I have experience with interviewing in the past and look forward to advancing these skills and understanding how interviewing for a nursing job will look as it is much more advanced, and we will be marketing ourselves in a different way. I am confident in my ability to converse with the employer about what the job entails and the skills and essential tools that I will bring to their team. As a student leader, I have had several opportunities on campus to expand my knowledge and skills as a leader, team player, and communicator. With my experiences as President of the Student Nursing Association, I have been working to run this club with the executive board as we tackle this from a virtual point of view with programming and fundraising. We have had to reshape the club to ensure students were staying engaged in the work we as a club promote and wish to fufill throughout the year. My communication skills and flexibility have come from experiences as a Resident Advisor and Tour Guide as these jobs both are adaptable each and everyday, and you connect with people on a different level to get the jobs done. Through these experiences and through my time in clinicals, there have definitely been challanges that have been faced and handles with humility and grace. We as humans learn from our mistakes and can only grow in the future. I plan to address these as a market for a learning tool and how these challenges and struggles helped make me into who I am today, and how I will never make the same mistake twice.
